Recruiting care staff in a county that leans towards its borders

Staffordshire's main towns pull in different directions. Burton looks east to Derbyshire, Tamworth and Lichfield sit next to the Birmingham conurbation, and Newcastle-under-Lyme runs straight into Stoke-on-Trent. The county council has said that recruitment and retention are harder in rural areas, and also in some urban areas where local employers compete for the same staff. Both problems point the same way: the right carer may well live across a county line.

Profiles show postcode district, how far the carer will travel, whether they drive with their own car and when they are free, which helps with the long rural rounds the council has flagged in the north and east. For nursing homes, registered nurses can show a checked NMC registration, useful when you are competing with two large acute trusts for the same people.
